Éléphant is a new kid’s clothing line started by New York based photographer Leslie Hassler. Her photography subjects include many high profile celebrities such as Al Pacino, Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Helena Bonham Carter, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Laura Linney among others.

Being very into fashion, Hassler styles her own shoots. “I have been very clothes conscious since I was a kid,” she says. “I often will pull out my own clothes or props which I’ve collected over the years like old hats and thrift store finds”.

Through her travels as a photographer, (Argentina, Mexico, Peru, and Bali) she began collecting unique and artistic objects for her shoots and her Chelsea loft. When she and her Argentinean husband, Miguel, (also a photographer), had their son Nico, Hassler embarked on a new phase of her life - designing kids’ clothes.

She started with designing things for her son and soon parents asked the same questions people had always asked of her. “Where did you find that?” Even Julia Roberts wanted to buy some of her designs but nothing was ready! After a year, she had designed a small children’s collection. “It really combines my passions!” says Leslie. “Fashion, design, kids, and photography”. All of the artwork on the Éléphant website is hand drawn by Leslie. The main characters in the illustrations are “Éléphant” and his trusty sidekick “Crockie.” The vibe of the collection is playful, funky and earthy. The emphasis is on creating unique and whimsical pieces. All of the clothes are designed in New York and manufactured in India. They are made with 100% natural fibers and colorfast dyes.
